Constructed by Smalls in the backyard of the big Robert Smalls home, the original footprint was two rooms before it doubled in size in the early 1900s and is the floor plan you see today.
The Smalls-Nash Cottage remained in the Smalls family until 2006, and under keeping of the Beaufort Historic Foundation until 2020. Lovingly restored with modern amenities and conveniences, the home has original preserved features including decorative double fireplaces with mantles and floor.
The one bedroom, one bathroom property highlights include a clawfoot tub with shower, a pull-out couch in the library for additional visitors and a tucked away, lush backyard with porch for calming in your own private getaway.
The kitchen is completely outfitted with flatware, cookware, refrigerator with freezer, full size oven and a four burner electric cooktop. The home has private WiFi and Intelligent TV in the library, along with a desk in the living room for any remote workers. The backyard has seating for outdoor dinners, as well as a charcoal grille and there’s a Samsung washer-dryer in the shed out back.
You’re an 8 min. walk from downtown Beaufort’s eateries, galleries, shopping and waterfront park and only a 25 min. drive to the pristine beaches of Hunting Island State Park (the home has a car pass). And if you’re feeling additional adventurous, the culinary delights and sights of Charleston and Savannah are both a little over an hour away.
