Inside, you’ll find a comfortable and inviting living area with ample seating for everybody, a dining table for shared meals, and a newly refreshed, entirely equipped modern kitchen. Additional conveniences include a full-size washer and dryer, as well as an electric fireplace to keep things cozy on cooler nights. There are two full bathrooms, plus an outdoor shower with hot and cold water and a foot wash—ideal for rinsing off sand after a day at the beach.

As comfortable as Driftwood Cottage is indoors, its most spectacular feature is the ocean-facing deck. With chairs, loungers, a porch swing, and a picnic table, it’s the ideal spot to catch the sea breeze, appreciate your morning coffee, or relax with a glass of wine in the afternoon. The beach is incredibly close—just a short 50-yard walk and your feet are in the surf.

For entertainment, the home offers five intelligent TVs, complimentary Wi-Fi, books, games, and puzzles—but the real star is the beach itself. Spend your days shelling, hunting for sea glass (also known as mermaid tears), surfing, swimming, fishing, or building sandcastles right outside your door. If you catch dinner, there’s a fish-cleaning station under the home, ready for prep before heading to the grille or kitchen.

Hatteras Island is really one of the most gorgeous places on earth, where a narrow strip of sand separates the Atlantic Ocean from the Pamlico Sound. Rodanthe Pier and Salvo Beach are an simple bicycle ride away along the breathtaking coastal trail. Nearby attractions include Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge, the Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum, and the appealing villages of Avon, Buxton, Waves, and Frisco—all just a short drive. Bird lovers will be delighted, as the island is home to more than 400 bird species.
