This property has one of the biggest outdoor pools on OBX and a Recreation Center with Indoor Pool, Hot Tub, Sauna, Exercise Room, and Activity Room.
THE SPACE
This is a 2BR/2BA unit located on the first floor, with Zero steps, so very convenient access. This unit is a great choice for individuals with mobility issues or those that can't do stairs.
This unit is roughly 1,100sq ft and is rated to sleep six (6) persons. You do have space for an additional person or two if they are smaller kids. There is a Washer / Dryer inside your unit.
This unit was completely gutted and modernized and refurbished, so you will have basically a brand-new interior. Please note that the photos were taken just as the remodel was finishing up, so in one of the photos you will see some tools on the counter, etc. However, the remodel has been finished, and this unit is now finished.
Please note that the layout in this unit is a little unconventional, as the front door opens into one of the bedrooms.
Full Kitchen with Stove, Oven, Fridge, Dishwasher, Microwave, Coffee Maker, Toaster, Blender, etc. Dining Table / 6 chairs and Living Room area with Loveseat and Sleeper couch.
Master Bedroom with Queen Size bed with full size bathroom / shower. 2nd Bedroom that has a Queen bed, Full bathroom / shower.
The outdoor deck has a breathtaking garden view and table / 4 chairs. You will be steps away from the Recreation Center with Indoor Pool, Hot Tub, Sauna, Exercise Room, and Activity Room.
GARDEN VIEW / SOUND VIEW CATEGORY:
While the resort itself is Beachfront, this specific unit located in the 300 Building (see property map in the photos section), is a litter nearer to the Sound side. This unit has a Resort / Garden view from the outdoor deck / patio. Of the 115 total units at this resort, roughly 75% of them are considered "Garden View," which can also include a view of the grounds, other buildings, or the parking areas. The "Sound View" units will include a view of Currituck Sound.
It is possible to walk to the Resort’s private Beach access, but since this is a huge 24+acre property that stretches from Sound to the Ocean, it can be a longer walk to the beach from certain sections of the resort versus other areas.
If you have a lot of beach gear, or modest kids, your best option might be to drive to the parking area right near the Outdoor Pool and Beach access.
STAIRS / ACCESSIBILITY:
Most properties in OBX have a certain number of stairs, so that buildings are elevated and protected in case of potential flooding that could be caused by hurricanes or major storms.
BIS-Duck Resort will provide assistance carrying your baggage to your unit if you would like some help.
For this specific unit:
Exterior Stairs to Front Door – 0 steps
Interior Stairs to 2nd level – There is no 2nd level on this unit. One level only on the first floor.
UNIT INTERIORS:
This property was originally constructed in the late 1980's and early 1990's. Recently a $8+ Million dollar renovation project was started, and expected to be finished in phases.
Until the entire renovation is finished, resulting in every unit interior being refreshed, you will find most unit interiors are cavernous and comfortable but very dated with decor from the late 1980's or early 1990's.
While personally I would describe this overall property as very laid back, casual, and cozy, it is important to note that these units definitely have more of a rustic, nearly like a dated cabin at the beach type feel, with older furnishings and carpets. Hopefully the photos supplied give you a general understanding for what I am describing.
The benefits offered by this resort are the overall amenities, including one of the biggest Outdoor Pool areas on OBX, private Guest access to a nice Beach, and a Recreation Center offering an Indoor Pool, Hot Tub, Workout Room, and Activity Room.
Please note that if this unit was modernized the nightly rate would be rather a bit higher. Many families savor their annual vacations at this property, however if you are a traveler that requires more opulent accommodations, this may not be the right choice for you, and you might want to consider one of the more expensive listings on Vacation Rental By Owner.
I am not trying to sound negative, because personally we appreciate this property for what it is, not what it isn't. I just want to make sure your expectations match reality. If you have any specific questions on this, please don't hesitate to ask.
GUEST ACCESS
Your unit is private, but since this is a Resort property, Conveniences will be shared with other guests (Pools, Beach, Outdoor Games, etc).
OTHER THINGS TO NOTE
- Primary Guest checking in must be at least 21 years of age with a valid ID and credit card for security deposit. If a security deposit is required, it will be returned to you after Check Out if you have not made any charges to your room.
- Barrier Island Station – Duck is professionally managed and operated by Capital Vacations. The Front Desk is staffed for Check-In, Check-Out, and is available for any questions, issues, or need for assistance during your stay.
- Check In time is 4:00pm (or after) and check out time is 10:00am. Please check with the resort Front Desk for any possibility of earlier unit availability and / or early use of the resort amenities during check-in days.
- Late Check In: The Front Desk / Office is open from 8am to 7pm. If you arrive after those hours you can go to the Security office and get access to your unit. Then the following morning you will need to go to the office by 11am to get officially signed in and receive your parking passes, information, etc.
- Please note that once you Check In and get access to your unit, if you encounter any issues or concerns regarding Housekeeping, Maintenance, etc…please contact the Front Desk / Office IMMEDIATELY. The staff members on-site provide the best opportunity to get any concerns resolved in the fastest and most efficient manner.
- Please note that some of the photos may not be from the specific unit you will be assigned. However, they do reflect the general layout you can expect from various locations in the unit.
- Two COMPLIMENTARY parking passes are included with this unit, which you will receive from the Front Desk at Check In. If you need parking for an additional car you can arrange this directly with the Front Desk.
- Linens linens, including blankets, sheets, and pillows are supplied. However, if have you have any favorites blankets or pillows, or if you sleep better using a certain type of pillow, it would be good to bring your own.
- If you plan on using the Sleeper couches during your stay, I definitely recommend bringing your own sheets, pillows, and blankets, maybe even a bed pad for the Sleeper couch specifically, which can be turned into a very comfortable additional bed. Also plan accordingly if your unit has multiple sleeper couches (bringing 2 sets of sheets, pillows, blankets, etc).
- Bath and Hand towels are supplied for you and will be inside your unit when you arrive.
- Please note that Housekeeping will provide EXTRA towels and blankets upon request. Just contact the Front Desk and they will arrange a drop-off.
- There is no daily housekeeping included. However, your unit does have its own Washer / Dryer in the unit that is for your use only. If additional housekeeping is desired during your stay, it is available for an additional fee scheduled directly with the resort Front Desk.
- Each Unit will receive a "Starter Package" at Check In. Your unit will have basic supplies like toilet paper, paper towels, detergent, etc. to get you thru the first day or two of your stay. I recommend you definitely be prepared for this by bringing your own supplies in these categories based on what you feel you will need for the week (especially if there are specific brands you favor). Also don’t forget any cleaning products if you want them (cleaners, hand sanitizer, disinfectant wipes, etc.). There are grocery stores conveniently located in Kitty Hawk, Duck, and Corolla if you want to shop for any groceries or personal items you want during your stay.
- Utensils, Dishes, and some basic Pots and Pans are supplied. If something appears to be missing, you can contact the Front Desk and possibly get it dropped off (if they have it). However, if you plan on cooking a lot of meals inside your unit, or plan any special dishes, I do recommend bringing your favorite Extensive Frying pan (or Grand Sauté Pan, Wok, Crockpot, etc., etc.) for cooking. This way you will have something you are comfortable using and you will know exactly how things will prepare in it. You may also want to bring your favorite Kitchen knife(s) for food prep.
- Pool / Beach towels are not included. Each family should bring their own pool / beach towels
- You should bring your own Beach Chairs / Beach Blankets / Umbrellas / Coolers / Equipment you want to use on the beach. If you don’t bring your own stuff, you are able to rent Beach chairs / Umbrellas in the Town of Duck, or during most summer weeks on the beach out in front of the facility.
- If you or any members of your family enjoy bicycle riding, I strongly recommend taking your own bicycles (if you have the means to do so). Bikes are a great way to move around the resort and also ride into the Town of Duck. Bicycle units in Duck are available if you don't bring your own. Remember to take your bicycle locks so you can lock up your bicycles at the bicycle rack each nighttime.
- If you are interested in fishing while on vacation, just make sure you have the proper licenses.
- Animals are not allowed anywhere on or in the Resort property.
About the Area
Located in Kitty Hawk, this condo is on the beach. Glazin' Go-Nuts and Wright Brothers National Memorial are cultural highlights, and some of the area's activities can be experienced at The Sanderling Spa and Duck Woods Country Club. Nor'Banks Sailing and Children at Play Museum are also worth visiting. Be sure to check out the area's animals with activities such as game walks and birdwatching.
