Impressionism, expressionism and all abstract paintings need a backbone - an invisible force holding the work together.
You will build a confident command of design principles and focal points, proportion, value differences of darks and lights and more. These are not to follow rigidly but tools to wield and then even choose to break with purpose to tell your story.
Paintings start to feel more cohesive, and alive with energy even in their most abstract.
