The Killer Dunes 2-Miler & Fun Run features one of the most unique courses on the coastline, and includes a unique challenge of climbing the dunes that are located within the Jockey’s Ridge State Park.

Kick off your summer vacation in style by popping by one of the most entertaining events of the season which also benefits a fantastic cause – the 4th Annual Soundside FunFair. This multi-day event creates a good old fashioned carnival atmosphere along the waterfront in Nags Head with a wealth of activities and attractions that are sure to leave everyone smiling.

Once a year, The Lost Colony holds a special performance that commemorates the birthday of the first English Child born in the New World, Virginia Dare, and over the years this unique event has come to be known locally as Virginia Dare Night.

The First Friday in Manteo is held every month on the initial Friday of the month, and is a street festival that will make any new visitor fall in love with this charming coastal community.

Known as one of the biggest and best fishing tournaments along the Eastern Seaboard, the annual Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament is a Crystal Coast-wide celebration that extends from the open and offshore Atlantic waters to the local docks of the Beaufort, Morehead City, and the Atlantic Beach waterfront.

Toast the beginning of the 2026 season for one of the country’s most acclaimed outdoor dramas, The Lost Colony, with this special opening performance at the famed Waterside Theater in the heart of Downtown Manteo. The Lost Colony is the longest-running outdoor drama in America, and is an acclaimed production that tells the story of the first colonists to arrive from England to the “New World,” eventually creating a settlement just steps away from where the performance takes place.

Billed as the "the biggest and only beach music festival actually held on the beach on the North Carolina coast" by the Pleasure Island Chamber of Commerce, this annual festival is a great way to experience the sights, sounds, and all-around fun of this popular beach town while enjoying some great music along the way.

The Emerald Isle Youth Fishing Derby is a longstanding family-friendly event that introduces children to the joys of fishing while promoting outdoor recreation, sportsmanship, and environmental stewardship. Held annually at the Emerald Isle Woods Park fishing pier, the derby provides young anglers with an opportunity to experience one of North Carolina’s most cherished coastal traditions in a fun and supportive setting. Organized by the Town of Emerald Isle’s Parks and Recreation Department, the event has become a popular summer tradition for local families and visitors alike.

The Avon’s Farmer’s Market features several dozen visitors from around the area that specialize in homemade goodies, and is a unique addition to the summer landscape that will attract visitors of all good tastes.

Share a love of fishing with the youngest members in your vacationing party with this special fishing tournament that’s designed with youth anglers in mind. The Fritz Boyden Memorial Youth Tournament is an annual fishing tournament that takes place on the famous Jennette’s Pier, as well as Avalon pier, Outer Banks Fishing Pier, and Nags Head Fishing Pier. It is open to all anglers ages 16 and under. The age groups for competitors are 4-9 years old and 10-16 years old, and trophies as well as rod and reel combos are awarded to the largest fish caught by a girl and boy angler for the day. Participants in the “catch and release” tournament can enjoy a full morning of fishing before going to a celebratory and awards lunch close to the pier.

The Jr. Jolly Mon - Rock the Dock event is for anglers who might be too young to compete in the big multiple day tournament, but who still want to drop a line and discover just how much fun fishing can be.

The Summer Track Series is a family-friendly community running event held throughout the summer at the First Flight High School track in Kill Devil Hills. Designed as an “all-comers” meet, the series welcomes participants of every age and ability level, from young children and first-time runners to competitive athletes and experienced racers. The informal, old-school format emphasizes fun, fitness, and community spirit while providing an opportunity for runners to test themselves in a variety of classic track events.

The Rogallo Kite Festival is a free and family-orientated event that features multiple days of kite flying to honor Francis Rogallo, NASA scientist and inventor of the flexible wing. His initial inventions started the sport of hang gliding, and his designs have carried over into the stunt kites, power kites and hang gliders that are flown today. To celebrate this innovator, visitors will be treated to a full day of kite-flying fun in one of the best destinations on the East Coast for high flyers, Jockey’s Ridge State Park.

Bring the family for this annual tournament that shines a spotlight on how much fun fishing in Ocean Isle Beach can be. The Jolly Mon King Classic fishing tournament brings together fishermen and their families for plenty of good times, good fun, and exceptional fishing. Offering a far-reaching array of great prizes that can range from gift cards to thousands of dollars in cash, this tournament is a fun and competitive way to discover the fruitful fishing along the Brunswick Islands.

Celebrating its 13th year in 2026, the Hatteras Village Golf Cart Parade is quickly becoming a favorite Independence Day celebration for Hatteras Island visitors and locals alike. Launched in 2013 as a fundraiser for the Hatteras Island Cancer Foundation with less than a dozen golf cart participants, today the event features more than 50 or 60  golf carts of all styles, decked out in purely fun and patriotic themes.

The Barrier Island Group’s annual “4 on the 4th” race is returning to Avon this summer for another festive celebration of community spirit, island pride, and Independence Day fun on Hatteras Island. Scheduled for Friday, July 3, the popular event invites locals and visitors alike to lace up their running shoes for a scenic four-mile run or walk through the Kinnakeet Shores neighborhood, along with a special 1,776-foot dash designed just for kids.

The July 4th on July 3rd Party is a family-friendly community celebration held annually at the Beaufort Historic Site, bringing together history, entertainment, and patriotic fun in advance of Independence Day. Set against the backdrop of one of North Carolina’s most historic coastal communities, the event offers visitors a unique opportunity to celebrate America’s heritage while enjoying an evening of activities designed for all ages. In 2026, the event is part of the Beaufort Historical Association’s America 250 commemorations marking the nation’s 250th anniversary.

Held each July 4 in downtown Beaufort, the parade has become one of the community’s most anticipated annual events, drawing spectators to Front Street to enjoy festive floats, decorated vehicles, marching groups, local organizations, and plenty of red, white, and blue spirit.

Kitty Hawk Kites is partnering with Surfrider Foundation Outer Banks Chapter to host a series of beach cleanups this season. Participants will meet at the Soundside Rd. public sound access. Once volunteers have checked in, they will receive gloves and cleanup bags and will be free to clean up a stretch of beaches of their own choosing.

This annual show features a superb variety of creations from 24 Outer Banks artists whose specialties include painting, pottery, jewelry, photography, glass, fiber arts, collage, wood and more. Admission to the show is free on both days and there is plenty of free parking.
