description: What did freedom look like — and what did it leave behind? At Dig Mitchelville Archaeology Camp, students ages 13–18 get hands-on experience uncovering the answers.

Over five days, campers work alongside educators and archaeologists on the sacred ground of Historic Mitchelville Freedom Park, one of the first self-governed towns of formerly enslaved people in the United States. Through real archaeological methods, artifact analysis, field documentation, and site exploration, students connect with the people who built Mitchelville and the story they left in the earth.

Campers learn to read history the way archaeologists do —carefully, respectfully, and with genuine curiosity.

Sponsored by Boeing Global Engagement.
