description: Are you ready to visit one of the best birdwatching spots in South Carolina? Bear Island is home to almost 300 species of birds, and the best spot in the state to view rare, wintering Tundra Swans. This adventure will see you join Captain Zach as we drive around the property to different wetland cells where we can see a plethora of birds & wildlife. Other target species include the White Pelican, American Avocet, Roseate Spoonbills, and we might get lucky & view a rare Barn Owl or two that like to roost in the nest boxes placed around the property!

itinerary: 9am - Meet at the Bear Island Gate parking lot
9:15am - Embark into Bear Island WMA
12 ~ 1pm - Return to parking lot at Front Gate & Disembark for the day
highlights: Bear Island is a birdwatcher's paradise as the habitats within it hosts nearly 300 species of birds throughout the year. We'll be going at a time when birds like the Tundra Swan, American White Pelican, and American Avocet will call the lowcountry home during those chilly winter months. We'll also get to see a wide diversity of waterfowl & shorebirds making use of the duck impoundments that are scattered across the property. We may also get lucky & spot a rare Barn Owl that make use of the boxes erected across the property.
check_in_details: Captain Zach will be standing next to his Gray Toyota 4Runner at the gate. There's a CSC sticker on the back windshield.
