Tabby - Construction Material

Tabby is a cement first made along the coast by the Spaniards in the early 1500's. They burned shells to extract lime, then mixed it with sand and shells and shaped it in great wooden molds to form durable walls and pillars. Click here for an example of tabby use in Colonial times.
