Hatteras – Ocracoke Ferry

The ferry ride is a relaxing 45-minute trip behind the southern-most tip of Hatteras Island and Hatteras Inlet.
The Hatteras-Ocracoke Ferry is the link between the southern portion of Hatteras Island and Ocracoke Island, which is accessible only via ferry or private boat. The ferry runs from 5:00 a.m. – Midnight every hour on the hour in the off-season. Additional trips on the half hour are added in-season.

The ferry ride is a relaxing 45-minute trip behind the southern-most tip of Hatteras Island and Hatteras Inlet. On the Hatteras side, an air-conditioned welcome center offers bathrooms, vending machines, water fountains and a Ship's Store with ferry-related clothing and gift items. On the Ocracoke side there's a comfort station with bathrooms and vending machines.

At peak times of the year, there is often a waiting line to board the ferries, especially on vacation rental cottage check-in days. During the summer, Wednesday and Thursday are popular days for vacationing day-trippers, so keep that in mind when planning your excursion. There is no charge to ride the ferry.
